Purpose Of Qualification

​

  • The Occupational Certificate  in Early Childhood Development with a Montessori specialization  provides students with an NQF Level 4 Qualification specializing in Montessori. It provides a complete understanding of the Montessori Philosophy as well as an in-depth understanding of presenting Montessori materials. 

  • This course prepares students to enter the Montessori Environment prepared and ready to Teach.

A qualified learner will be able to:

  • To help students form a coherent and consistent set of values that blend with Montessori principles.

  • To enable students to study and understand the theory and philosophy of Montessori ideas.

  • To enable students to build a versatile set of skills to work with and advance children’s learning in a Montessori classroom.

  • To develop the growth of Montessori education.

  •  Plan and prepare broad-phase learning environment and stimulating activities that meet the holistic needs of all children in centre-based or non-centre-based settings.

  • Facilitate and mediate all aspects of the daily programme in a centre-based or non-centre based setting.

  • Observe, assess and record each child’s progress according to the age and stage.

  • Compile a report of each child’s progress.

  •  Maintain and promote the well-being, health, nutrition, safety and protection of children.

Admission Requirements

Applicants for the Montessori Course must meet the minimum requirements below:

​

  • Be aged 18 years or over.

  • Hold a Matric Certificate with a minimum of a Diploma pass. This means that students need to have passed 6 of the 7 subjects taken: 4 subjects must have been passed with at least 40%; Home Language must have been passed at 40% and there must be at least a 30% pass in the Language of Learning and Teaching.

  • In the absence of a Matric certificate as detailed above, students must provide proof of equivalence (i.e. for foreign school leaving certificates).

  • Be a South African citizen or permanent resident (or hold a full and relevant visa for the duration of the course).

  • Have access to a tablet, laptop or desktop computer, be computer literate, and have reliable Internet access and sufficient data.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
RPL for access to the external integrated summative assessment: Accredited providers and approved workplaces must apply the internal assessment criteria specified in the related curriculum document to establish and confirm prior learning. Accredited providers and workplaces must confirm prior learning by issuing a Statement of Results or certifying a Work Experience Record.

RPL for access to the Qualification: Accredited providers and approved workplaces may recognise prior learning against the relevant access requirements.
